Sooo,....I will be arriving home in the USA poor. Dirt poor. Everything here is sooo expensive. For example, if I wanted to buy a t-shirt it would be 20 euros. Not bad, you may think, but when you convert it to US dollars it is over $30.00. The conversion rate is terrible. Also, you have to pay to get into everything! I paid 5euros to get into St. Patricks cathedral. That's about $8.00 to LOOK at a church (the picture is from inside the cathedral). I need to buy a bus pass to get to school everyday and this may cost 100euros (do the conversion in your head,..yikes!)
Now that I am done complaining, I will tell you a little about my crazy day. After taking a brief bus tour of Dublin, we toured the Guinness factory. We briefly saw the President's house (a women president!). I was surprised to note that her house is nothing like the White house. It was not heavily guarded or surrounded by tourists. As we drove past, you could clearly see a light on in one of these rooms. Our tour guide told us that the President is in whenever the light is turned on. I thought this was really interesting. Also, we drove past the US ambassador's house (Dan Rooney...GO STEELERS). We want to figure out a way to meet him while we are here.
Most of my day was spent wondering, because we were completely lost, around Dublin. Our tour guide dropped us off in the city and told us to "find our way home". Hmmm,......I had no idea where I was going. It was quit an adventure. Dublin is MASSIVE. The hardest part of our day was when we had to jump on a bus an attempt to find our home. There were no markings at any of the bus stops and I spent most of the time thoroughly confused. As you can see, however, we clearly made it home. The bus system is going to take some time to get used to. Wish me luck because tomorrow we have to attempt to find our school.
That's about all for the day. O yeah, I included the picture of the dog sign just to be funny. These are posted all over Dublin!
p.s. I miss everyone from home, especially my wonderful students!
